A monument to American historian and political scientiests James Mace is planned to be established in Kyiv. The draft decree on building the monument has been agreed with the Foreign Ministry of Ukraine, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Culture and Toutism, the Ministry of Building and Architecture, the Ministry of Economics, and the Minisrty of Justice. According to the drsft decree, it is planned to hold a contest on the best project of the monument, and to determine the place where it will be erected. The expenses will be covered by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Ukraine.
On 26 November 2005 President Victor Yushchenko conferred the Yaroslav the Wise Order II on American researcher and public figure James Mace posthumously.
Thje order was bestowed for his personal merits to the Ukrainian nation in revealing the truth to the world community about the 1932-1933 Great Famine in Ukraine, for fruitful research work and public activities.
Prof. James Mace, author of numerous scholarty works and one of the first serious researchers of the 1933 Holodomor, was born February 18, 1952, in Muskogee, Oklahoma. In 1973, he graduated from Oklahoma State University and went on to earn an M.A. and Ph.D. in history at the University of Michigan, in 1981 defended his dissertation, later published in book form (Harvard, 1983).
Upon compliting his graduate studies Dr.James Mace was invited to join the famine project at the Horvard Ukrainian Research Institute where he collected material for Robert Conquest's Harvest of Despair.
In 1986-90, James Mace served as executive director of the US Ukraine Famine Commission, a public/private organization subject to Congress and the president, supervising its daily work and drafting its findings for approval by the full commission. After 1990, he held fellowships at Columbia and Illinous Universities.
In 1993, Prof. Mace moved to Ukraine, working first as a supervisory research fellow at the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences Institute of Ethnic and Political Studies, then teaching politics at the Kyiv-Mohyla Academy National University and International Christian University.
Since 1998, Prof. Mace was consultant to the Day's Weekly Digest of Ukrainian news in English.

International debut of New National Theater Ballet, Tokyo at the stage of
the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. was a great success.
Company's superb performance of "Raymonda" on February 17, 2008 brought
numerous certain calls, cheers, and a standing ovation.
It is wonerful choreographed and a high quality elegant production.
Ballet Company from Japan has done an excellent job on putting on a traditional "Raymonda" memorable performance.
The sets and costumes by Luisa Spinatelli looked really great.
The Company, directed by Asami Maki, has a good future. Artistic Director of
New National Theater Ballet, Tokyo has a very good taste.
Company's repertoire includes classical and 20th-centery works, as well as
original creations by Artistic Director Asami Maki.
Not only leading dancers but also the rest of the cast were just great.
A physical beauty and sensitivity of Motoijma Miwa as Raymonda, her
light-as-a-feather dancing and tenderness charmed the audience.
Morita Kenaro as Abderachman showed not only a good technical skill
but also his artistic ability.
This year The Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. provides us with world
class entertainment.

United States and Ukraine signed charter on strategic partnership and security in Washington D.C.on December 19, 2008.The document signed by Ukrainian Foreign Minister Volodymyr Ogrysko and U.S. Secretary of States Condoleezza Rice embraces a wide range of bilateral cooperation priorities and foresees deepened cooperation in the economic and defense sectors. The United States pledged to enhance its support for Ukrainian army through NATO's programmes. The document also stipulated Ukraine's support for U.S. aspirations to expand its diplomatic presence in Ukraine, particularly in Crimea.
